ESCAPE!

Ink and Digital

I gotta say this one was a ton of fun to make - I'm gonna keep working with digital, I think there's a lot of potential there. I also really enjoyed working more abstract then usual and I've got a couple other pieces kicking around in my sketchbook I'm gonna pursue.

More work on the weird piece! Finally have all the linework seperated. Now it's time to stat really getting into the rendering.

Started blocking in colors - next step rendering! I gotta say, working this way is really freeing; I'm willing to get riskier on my pallet and where I drop colors and I can experiment with the placement.

Inked, scanned and color pallet picked out. Decided I wanted to stretch my colors a bit on this one...I'm a little scared.

More work on it. I'm digging it so far.
Tomorrow: Finish inking, get it scanned and cleaned up and then COLOR! muhwahahaha
Playing around with a bit more abstract/gallery-ish type work. It's kinda fun to not have a specific article or idea to launch off of. I've been doing a lot of free-drawing lately, this just kinda spawned out've it.

Next step - ink!

New Mailers

Well after the pretty lackluster printing of my original postcards (they really botched the color and a good 2/3's of them printed fuzzy) Vistaprint gave me a pretty spectacular deal on my new batch! So - to follow the old ones up, here are the new designs!

Another attempt at digital

Another attempt at digital painting. Again - I'm digging it but I don't know if it really feels like me.

Next - new concepts!

More digital!

So I've been continuing my exploration of digital and how I can make it feel 'natural'. This time I redid the Routes piece.

Next up I'm working on the greyhound piece again along with a couple NEW pieces I've been itching to get done.

Digital painting?! WUH?!

So, after meeting and talking with a lot of art directors and other artists in my field I've come to the sad sad realization that the world has gone digital and that I severely missed the boat. So I got myself a little tablet and decided to give some actual 'digital painting' a try (more then just the block coloring I'd done in the past).

Now I'm not giving up on traditional just yet but WOW digital is fast (and I kinda dig the outcome a bit - though I still need some more practice and whatnot).

New blog, new website, new mailers...! ARTOVERLOAD!

So I got my mailers in today - besides a small color shift they look fantastic!

Also, in tribute of my new website design/layout (I dun lurned me some flash) I redid my blog a bit, too!

Color corrected the new Carmen piece and found the old font and updated it (it feels way better to me).

Getting everything updated for a new website update...ugh

Mailers!

So I finished throwing together my next set of mailers - Any feedback y'all could give me would be greatly appreciated that way I can catch any mistakes and whatnot before I get them printed.

More work with acrylic. Just playing around with old concepts while I work out the new medium.

HOLY CRAP A HORIZONTAL-ISH PIECE!

Thursday, April 22, 2010

Went ahead and got the senior gallery piece scanned in before I turned it in. Turns out it wasn't due for another week...o well.

Opens on the Wed. the 12th next month at 11:30, y'all should be there!

Acrylic

Continued exploration of acrylic washes.

I like to go back and redo piece that I liked when I start playing with a new technique or material. That way if something isn't working I know it was the new stuff and not the concept.

Routes
~11"-21"
acrylic on bfk

My little ode to growing up in suburbia. You're not quite in the city but you're not quite in nature.

So...I think it might be time to invest in a bigger scanner.
That or I need to start working a tiny bit smaller. Sorry about the crappy picture, camera phones don't work too well for taking great archival shots. I'll try to scan this sucker in chunks once the ink is finally dry (in like 3 days...I gotta start doing the borders a little thinner, too.)

Continued exploration of acrylic washes on bfk. I like the texture of the paper but I need to find something that holds up to tape and masking fluid better because this just tears apart when you take it off. I might go back to the watercolor paper...it's just so damned expensive.

Finally started scanning in some of the work from this Winter.

This is actually turning into an acrylic and oil piece on a huge canvas for a show this summer.

More to come!
